Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 February 2026

This privacy policy explains how ExamNet (the Android app "ExamNet Watch", package name com.examnetwatch) and the website examnet.no collect, use and protect information. ExamNet is developed and operated by Hegnes Tech, a Norwegian sole proprietorship.

1. Data controller

2. What the app does

ExamNet is a Wi-Fi monitoring tool for schools. It scans for nearby Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) and signal strength to help exam supervisors detect unauthorized mobile hotspots during exams. The app does not intercept, read or store any network traffic.

3. Data collected by the app

Data Purpose Stored
Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs) and signal strength Detect unauthorized hotspots Locally on device only
License key Verify active subscription Locally on device; sent to api.examnet.no for validation
Device identifier (Android ID) License activation and device count enforcement Sent to api.examnet.no during license validation
School name, room names, exam session notes Organize scans per room and exam Locally on device only

4. Data NOT collected

  • No personal data about students or exam participants
  • No MAC addresses of detected devices
  • No network traffic or packet contents
  • No GPS coordinates or precise location data
  • No analytics, advertising identifiers or tracking
  • No crash reports or usage telemetry

5. Permissions

The app requests the following Android permissions:

  • Location (including background) – Required by Android to perform Wi-Fi scans. The app uses location access solely to scan for nearby Wi-Fi networks. No GPS coordinates are recorded or transmitted.
  • Wi-Fi – To scan for and list nearby wireless networks.
  • Camera – To scan QR codes for license activation. The camera is only active during the license scanning screen and no images are stored.
  • Internet – To validate the license key against api.examnet.no. No other network communication occurs.
  • Foreground service – To continue Wi-Fi scanning while the screen is off during an active exam session.

6. Data transmission

The only network communication the app performs is license validation. When a license key is entered or periodically re-validated, the app sends the license key and a device identifier to api.examnet.no over HTTPS. The server responds with the validation status (valid/invalid, school name, expiry date). No scan data, Wi-Fi data or exam session data is ever transmitted off the device.

7. Data storage and retention

All scan data (Wi-Fi networks, exam sessions, observations, alerts) is stored locally on the device in an encrypted database. Data is never uploaded to any server. Users can delete all stored data by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.

8. Third-party services

  • Google ML Kit (on-device) – Used for QR code scanning during license activation. Processing happens entirely on-device; no data is sent to Google.

The app does not include any analytics SDKs, advertising libraries, crash reporting services or other third-party tracking tools.

9. Website (examnet.no)

The website examnet.no is a static informational site. It does not use cookies. The order form is processed through Formspree, which receives the information you submit (school name, contact person, email, phone number, message). Formspree's privacy policy applies to form submissions.

The website uses Ackee for anonymous visitor statistics. Ackee is a cookie-free, privacy-focused analytics tool with a multi-step anonymization process that ensures visitors stay anonymous. No personal data is collected and no cookies are set.

10. Children's privacy

ExamNet is a tool for school staff (teachers and exam supervisors), not for students. The app does not collect any data from or about children. It does not require a user account and does not target or market to minors.

11. GDPR compliance

Hegnes Tech is based in Norway and complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Norwegian Personal Data Act (Personopplysningsloven). Since the app collects minimal data and processes no personal data about individuals beyond a device identifier for license enforcement, the privacy impact is low.

You have the right to:

  • Request information about what data is associated with your license key
  • Request deletion of your license data from our server
  • File a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet)

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
